Kargo Technologies plans to deploy over 40,000 EVs by 2035, creating what is termed the "Electrified Silk Road," which will integrate logistics corridors spanning Southeast Asia, China, and the Gulf.
From 500 EVs in 2025, it plans to roll out another 2,500 by 2026 in response to increasing demand for cleaner and more efficient logistics solutions.
This significant shift aligns with Indonesia’s national energy transition policies, outlined in recent government regulations aimed at promoting low-emission mobility. Kargo’s commitment reflects the company's ambition to modernize the logistical framework, facilitating both domestic and cross-border trade with a focus on sustainability.
“Electric vehicles allow us to see logistics not merely as transportation but as an integrated system that can be analysed, measured, and continuously improved,” said Tiger Fang, CEO and founder of Kargo Technologies.
The logistics sector is increasingly recognising the need for sustainable practices, with Kargo's initiative seen as a direct response to government calls for private-sector involvement in realising the energy transition.
With partnerships already established with major customers such as SPX, Astro, and Teleport, Kargo is poised to work towards integrating EVs into their logistics networks. This strategic collaboration not only aligns with corporate decarbonization goals but is also expected to enhance cost efficiency and improve delivery reliability.
Kargo Technologies recently held a press event in Jakarta, which attracted over 150 stakeholders, including policymakers and EV manufacturers. The discussions highlighted private-sector execution as key to accelerating the energy transition, underscoring the importance of collaboration in building Indonesia’s emerging EV logistics ecosystem.
“While the government sets the direction, it is the private sector that must implement and turn these policies into tangible projects and employment opportunities,” noted Anindya Bakrie, chairman of KADIN Indonesia.
The new EV program includes a dedicated partnership initiative aimed at providing shippers and corporate clients various advantages, including real-time operational visibility through the Kargo Nexus platform. Additionally, Kargo Technologies has signed memoranda of understanding with major EV manufacturers such as Foton and Wuling, further reinforcing Indonesia’s position as a regional hub for green logistics innovation.
