Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT or sometimes referred to as LTE-M2) is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) radio technology standard developed by 3GPP to enable a wide range of cellular devices and services. The current specification is 3GPP Release 13 (released in June 2016). It doesn’t operate in the licensed LTE construct, meaning it doesn’t cost companies money to use this technology.
The Huawei whitepaper describes the market opportunity for NB-IoT, including deployment scenarios, and potential business models that can arise from the use of the technology.
