Workday makes Sana the new home for agentic HR, finance and IT work

Workday has relaunched Sana as the new Workday Home, positioning the agentic experience as a single interface through which employees can complete HR, finance and IT tasks rather than simply receive answers. The move reflects Workday’s push to bring AI agents into everyday workflows while retaining enterprise policies, permissions and approval controls.investor.

Employees can ask Sana for what they need in natural language, and the platform orchestrates Workday agents to complete actions such as approving expenses, processing leave requests or resetting passwords. Workday says every action follows the organisation’s existing rules, with people brought in when judgement or approval is required.investor.

The company also introduced Sana Concierge, an AI-native HR and IT service agent designed to resolve employee requests before they become tickets. It can handle onboarding, offboarding, leave and payroll questions, password resets and application access, while escalating cases to specialists with relevant context when human judgement is needed.

“AI is the new UI,” said Joel Hellermark, chief AI officer at Workday. “Users shouldn’t have to decide which agent to use, just as they shouldn’t have to click between dozens of different systems.”

For Asia-Pacific enterprises, the announcement is significant because Sana is designed to operate within the tools employees already use, including Claude, Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Teams and Slack.

Workday says a single connection will carry each company’s permissions, policies and approvals, allowing agents to work across these environments without requiring every tool to be connected individually.

That approach may appeal to organisations across Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and wider Asia-Pacific, where hybrid work, distributed teams and multi-vendor technology estates make employee service delivery increasingly fragmented.

Workday says Sana can maintain context as work moves between people, agents and systems, supporting longer workflows such as performance reviews, quarterly finance closes and workforce planning.

The new Workday Home experience is available now. Sana Concierge is available to early-adopter customers and is expected to become generally available in the first calendar quarter of 2027.

Workday is also extending Sana with purpose-built experiences for recruiting, payroll, performance and travel. Planned capabilities include a Talent Acquisition Agent for sourcing and scheduling, a Payroll Agent for payroll issue prevention and insights, and a Travel Agent for booking and reimbursement.
