Movement Software acquires Freeway to deepen public mobility reach in Asia-Pacific

Movement Software has acquired Freeway Fleet Systems, a UK specialist in fleet maintenance and asset management software, in a move designed to expand the group’s public mobility and transportation capabilities across Asia-Pacific and other international markets.

The acquisition adds Freeway’s enterprise fleet-management platform to Movement Software, a Northern European group of more than 20 niche software companies operating across Transportation & Logistics, Vehicle Digital Solutions and Public Mobility. Freeway will retain its existing brand, team and products, while gaining access to Movement’s resources, expertise and investment capacity.

Freeway’s platform manages the full maintenance cycle, including scheduling, defect management, workshop and supplier management, parts and stores, purchasing, fuel data and cost analysis. Its mobile applications support driver checks, engineer inspections, electronic job cards and timesheets.

The acquisition extends Movement’s international footprint through Freeway’s presence in southern Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. For Asian bus, coach and road-transport operators, the deal could bring integrated fleet maintenance tools alongside Movement’s real-time passenger information and operator fleet-management solutions.

Operational synergies

Movement said fleet maintenance sits at the operational centre of public mobility because every service depends on vehicles that are safe, compliant and ready to run. The company expects immediate synergies between Freeway’s maintenance software and the passenger-information and fleet-management tools already within its Public Mobility business.

“Freeway is a great fit with Movement Software. Fleet maintenance is what keeps public transport running, and Freeway slots straight into the Public Mobility platform we’re building,” said Per Stenman, business area director for Public Mobility at Movement Software.

Stenman added that Freeway’s customer base in the UK, Ireland and South Africa, together with customers in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, creates opportunities for the wider Movement portfolio.

Continuity for customers

Freeway managing director Patrick Tandy said customers would continue to work with the same team, products and service, while the company gains investment and access to Movement’s network of operators across Northern Europe.

“Joining Movement Software gives us a real opportunity to do more for our customers and to take Freeway into new markets,” Tandy said. He noted that the collaboration would also enable Freeway to introduce Movement’s complementary solutions to customers in the UK, Ireland, southern Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
